Bifana (pork loin sandwich)

The bifana is one of Portugal’s most beloved sandwiches, showcasing the country’s love for simple yet flavorful street food.

Originating from the Alentejo region, the bifana has become popular throughout Portugal, with each area often adding its twist to the recipe. It highlights the country’s dedication to using fresh, local ingredients and their emphasis on bold, savory flavors.

Ingredients:

(serves 2)

350 gr of pork loin
4-5 garlic cloves
3 table spoons of margarine
2 bayleaves

Instructions:


•Start by cutting thin slices of the pork loin, season with salt and reserve
• On a frying pan, heat the margarine, place the bayleaves and the garlic
cloves smashed
• Once margarine melts, place the slices of pork loin without crowding the
pan.
• One golden of both sides remove them from the pan.
• You can either toast the bread on a toaster, or soak in the flavours by placing
the bread (interior part) down on the frying pan to get it golden.
• If you like garlic, peel and smash the garlic on the frying pan and spread on
your bread.
• Eat with mustard, enjoy!
